The Self-Determination Student Scale
The Self-Determination Student Scale measures cognitive, affective, and behavioral factors related to self-determination as identified in the Action Model for Self-Determination ). The SDSS provides students with scores for each of the five components of the Self-Determination Action Model (Field & Hoffman, 1992; 2015) i.e., Know Yourself and Your Context, Value Yourself, Plan, Act, and Experience Outcomes and Learn as well as a score for the entire instrument. Component scores can be used to help students learn about their strengths and areas for improvement related to self-determination. It can also be used on a repeated basis to measure students’ growth in self-determination over time. The SDSS is valuable to use with students on either a one-to-one or group basis to promote and evaluate the growth of knowledge, skills and beliefs that lead to self-determination.
