These materials were adapted from the Steps to Self-Determination Curriculum (Field & Hoffman 1996; Hoffman & Field, 2005) to meet parent education and support needs in early childhood programs, such as the Caring for Kids Initiative (CKI) infant and early childhood mental health consultation model. Partial funding for adapting these materials was provided by The Guidance Center (Southgate, MI) through their CKI (Caring for Kids Initiative) programs. In my view, It is really important to meet parents basic psychological needs, because it helps them to be needed-supportive with their children.
